Enterprise-wide data collection and analysis
Use C\Prof to reveal CICS transaction activity across your enterprise.
In this section, you will learn how to:
Collect and analyze transaction profiles from data gathered from the CICS internal trace (see Profiling CICS transactions).
Record or take a snapshot of the CICS internal trace to an auxiliary trace data set, and how to open these data sets in the C\Prof trace viewer (see Creating and analyzing C\Prof auxiliary trace data sets).
Create and view your own trace entries written in COBOL or Java (see Creating and viewing your own trace entries).
Configure your systems to automatically capture the CICS internal trace when problems occur using snapshot (see Automatic problem capture with event-driven snap).
Expand your collection to additional CICS regions and LPARs (see Expanding your collection topology to CICS regions in other LPARs).
Review vital collection statistics for your CICS regions (see Reviewing collection status).
Define groups of CICS regions that use multiregion operation (MRO) (see Collecting from CICS regions that use multiregion operation (MRO)).
Split your collectors for operational management (see Splitting collectors for operational management).
Configure C\Prof to automatically start and stop the CICS internal trace (see Configuring automatic internal trace control for specific CICS regions).
Perform a cleanup of your collected data using housekeeping (see Cleaning up old collection data via housekeeping).
Configure your systems for optimum performance (see Configuring for optimum performance).
Control the collector via operator commands (see Controlling the collector via operator commands).
The C\Prof ISPF dialog uses checkpoint data sets (specified in your configuration file using the CHECKPT control statement) to register and locate archive and auxiliary trace data sets created during the trace collection process. You can control which checkpoint data set is being used by the ISPF dialog by selecting an appropriate configuration file on the C\Prof primary option menu.
Note: Before you proceed, start the C\Prof collection server you set up in Chapter 2 and set your configuration file on the C\Prof primary option menu. If you have not already set up and run a C\Prof collection server, return to Getting started to complete your set up.
